Thoughts Monthly

August 12th, 2009 by admin

Want to knwo what I’ve been up to for the last few weeks? Here it is. I am certain you will enjoy the insight and sites here. I can’t believe how these sites helped me recently.

Camping Gear

Did some back country hiking and camping a couple weeks ago. Sometimes the mountains just dump a ton of rain on you when you least expect it. The tent we own isn’t made for back country camping so we had to search for a new tent. Shipping a tent online can be stressful…luckily the dang thing made it to us on time. The website I ordered from was really awesome – a good combination of tents. The package arrived super duper fast. If you ever get the chance to hike into a camp, take it. It’s so worthwhile. Time for another round?

Security Systems

On my ‘to do’ list before leaving for the trip: get a home security system. What do you do if your pics are all on your computer and a breakin happens? Sad day. You know it feels like such an invasion just to think about theft. There were a lot of free alternatives that we considered but we ultimately felt safest with monitoring. It didn’t take long to install at all. Felt the most peace of mind I’ve ever felt while I was enjoying the camping trip.

eFusjon Opportunity

Camping is a lot of fun, but it takes a lot of energy. Efusjon saved us on this trip. It is totally worth the money. Everything we did while camping was so draining. I know I need to hit the gym when I get back but these drinks helped a lot. You definitely should try the drink first, then buy. It’s worth it. I can’t reiterate how awesome this drink is. It’s worth every penny! Go visit the link above and join already!

Good luck – hope you visit again soon. I know you’ll enjoy these sites!

Fall Arrest Safety Equipment

May 19th, 2009 by admin

Just how far do you need to fall to sustain a serious injury? As low as a couple of metres. It’s understandable to feel safe when you feel able as you cut branches from a tree and have much experience of working at height. Yet, even the most assured, experienced tree surgeon or roofer has succumbed to serious injury when working off the ground. Why would that be? Because when something goes wrong, you have no opportunity to respond. Once Newton’s Law takes over, you have no chance to correct the slip.

It’s utterly vital you prevent yourself from such accidents when working at height by utilizing fall arrest safety equipment. It doesn’t matter if you’re merely reducing a few branches from a tree, fall arrest equipment is requisite.

So what type of fall arrest safety equipment are we talking about here? Depending on the job you must do, you could be considering any in this list: Pole straps, Harnesses (including full body harness and sit harness), Slings, Lanyards, Kits, Karabiners, Pulleys, Static line rope and rope protection, and rope grabs and connectors.

If you work at height in your daily job, such as quarries ,civil engineering, telecoms or manufacturing – you really ought to have been drilled in height safety and be very familiar with fall arrest safety equipment. Otherwise, you are putting yourself at great risk.

Don’t Roll that Lawn

May 26th, 2008 by admin

Every spring some mysterious hormone hits the male of the species and the urge to “do lawn work” strikes.

One rite of spring is act of rolling the lawn. I’ve never been able to figure out why someone would roll a lawn; in my household, a lawn is for rolling on, not for being rolled. Many local homeowners, no doubt hormonally unbalanced by the passing of winter, like to go out and drag a heavy weight around the lawn. I recently read one newsletter that said the reason for rolling was to make sure the grass roots were in contact with the soil. Right, and I’ve got a bridge I can sell you. Grass roots, if properly grown, are quite deep and no amount of frost is going to throw them out of contact with the soil. The only thing rolling a lawn accomplishes is to compact the soil.

Rolling the lawn compacts the soil squashing all the soil particles together. This means that air spaces necessary for good root growth are eliminated. It also means that water can’t penetrate the soil because there are no holes for it to move into. The bulk of the water runs off the lawn and never penetrates deep into the soil to the root zone level. This run off water takes the dissolving plant food with it so the spring feeding is washed down the sewer. In one fell swoop, rolling a lawn eliminates the necessary aeration, prevents water from entering and assists in the removal of spring applied fertilizer. I can’t think of an faster way to help put stress on a lawn than to roll the lawn first thing in the spring.

The professionals at the Turfgrass Institute agree, rolling your lawn is poor start to spring. And you can get even more lawn information at Beginner-gardening.com
